What is an ophthalmologist?

An ophthalmologist is a physician (doctor of medicine, MD) who specializes in the medical and surgical care of the eyes, visual system, and in the preventive care of eye diseases and injury.

Will I be dilated? If so, how long will the dilation last?

Most patients new to our practice will be dilated. For our established patients, you may be dilated depending on the type of appointment that you have scheduled. Dilation can usually last up to 3-5 hours depending on the person. 

Is Dr. Rinderknecht/Dr. Garcia a surgeon?

Yes. Dr. Rinderknecht and Dr. Garcia perform surgery at the Institute at Boswell. These surgeries would include, but are not limited too:​

  • Blepharoplasty (Eyelids)

  • Ptosis (Drooping Eyelids)

  • Lasers (Glaucoma)

  • YAG posterior capsulotomy

  • Cataract Surgery

  • Cornea related procedures

Can I pay my bill online?

No. Payments cannot be made online via the patient portal website. Payments can ONLY be made via mail, in office, or you can call our office at (623) 977-8341 and pay over the phone.


How long is a new patient exam?

Each new patient exam is tailored to the needs of that particular patient. We estimate that it will take 45 minutes to 1 hour for a new patient exam. Although we prefer that you register through our online patient portal, if you are having trouble doing so, please download our new patient form by clicking on the link below and bring the completed form in with you to your appointment:

What insurances are you providers for?

We are providers for a number of insurance companies. These would include, but not limited to:


  • Medicare Part B (we accept assignment)

If your insurance is not listed above, the best thing to do would be to call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask if Dr. Rinderknecht/Dr. Garcia is a provider for your insurance plan.
